Current Lighting in Greenville, SC is seeking a Design Engineer to support maintenance, growth, and continuous improvement of a lighting product portfolio. Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical or Electrical).
  • Proficient in MS Excel.
  • 2+ years of related experience, and/or lighting systems experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • 2D and 3D CAD experience preferred.
  • SAP ERP experience preferred.
  • Altium/PCB Layout software experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, listening, oral, written).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support initiatives to improve profitability, performance, and market competitiveness of existing products for key account opportunities.
  • Support technology generational updates for electrical and mechanical subsystems across existing product families.
  • Drive technical solutions that improve product profitability through cost reduction and value engineering.
  • Provide technical support for project execution, inquiries, warranty investigations, quality initiatives, and service requests.
  • Execute project activities in line with the New Product Development process.
  • Coordinate prototype builds, validation, and regulatory testing for project success.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, labs, manufacturing, and customers to achieve objectives.
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, design docs, and 3D models for enhancements and manufacturing requests.
  • Design PCBs for lighting systems meeting performance, reliability, and regulatory needs.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions for quality issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Job description

The Design Engineer is responsible for supporting the maintenance, growth, and continuous improvement of a portfolio of lighting products and solutions. This role plays a key part in executing technology generational updates, supporting key customer initiatives, and driving product enhancements across multiple product families. The engineer will collaborate closely with manufacturing, product management, quality, sourcing, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet customer and business needs.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead and support initiatives to improve the profitability, performance, and market competitiveness of existing products for key account opportunities.
  • Support technology generational updates for electrical and mechanical subsystems across existing product families.
  • Drive technical solutions that improve product profitability through cost reduction, value engineering, and product expansion initiatives.
  • Provide technical support for project execution, customer inquiries, warranty investigations, quality initiatives, and technical service requests.
  • Execute project-related activities in accordance with the New Product Development (NPD) process.
  • Coordinate prototype builds, performance validation, and regulatory certification testing to ensure successful project execution.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, testing laboratories, manufacturing teams, and customers, to achieve project objectives.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, design documentation, and 3D models to support product enhancements, sustaining engineering activities, and manufacturing requests.
  • Design printed circuit boards (PCBs) for lighting systems that meet performance, reliability, efficacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support root cause investigations and implementation of corrective actions related to product quality and field performance issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
  • 4-year degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical or Electrical)
  • Must be proficient in MS Excel
  • 2+ years of related experience is preferred, and/or experience in lighting and lighting systems
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • 2D and 3D CAD experience is preferred
  • SAP ERP system experience is preferred
  • Altium/PCB Layout software experience preferred
  • Excellent communications skills: interpersonal, listening, oral, and written
