Job summary

CannonDesign is seeking an experienced Lighting Designer to join our Chicago team, contributing to new construction and renovations across education, healthcare, sports, corporate, and science sectors. You will work under the lighting team leader to design and document lighting and control systems for diverse client projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or closely related degree.
• Must have a min 2 years of related work experience performing in a lighting design role.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to effectively handle multiple projects/tasks.
• Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs (i.e. Revit MEP, AGI, ElumTools, ComCheck) preferred.
• Proficiency in graphic design and image editing software (Adobe Creative Suite).
• Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, PPT required. Proficiency in Bluebeam, Teams, Trello, Procore + Miro preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare basic construction documents and specifications of lighting and control systems.
• Design lighting and controls systems for healthcare, education and commercial clients.
• Analyze lighting and engineering documents and layouts.
• Develop electrical and energy codes, as well as IES recommendations, and apply lighting design.
• Perform illuminance and lighting power density calculations and complete ComCheck/other records.
• Recommend improvements with reference standards to improve quality and coordination.
• Recommend markup of shop drawings and submittals.
• Gather information to respond to RFIs and review changes on construction documents.
• Visit job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
• Site visits may require physical walk-through; may perform other related tasks.
