Job summary

CannonDesign is hiring an entry-level Lighting Designer to join our multi-disciplinary team in Chicago. You will work under the lighting team leader on a variety of projects, including educational, healthcare, sports, corporate and science/technology sectors, contributing to basic construction documents and lighting system designs.

You will learn to analyze lighting and engineering documents, apply energy codes and IES recommendations, and perform calculations for illuminance and lighting power

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering or closely related degree by hire date.
• Coursework in building systems engineering or architecture is strongly preferred.
• Related student internship work experience is preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to effectively handle multiple projects/tasks.
• Experience with engineering design programs (Revit MEP, AGI, ElumTools, ComCheck) is preferred.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT); Bluebeam, Teams, Trello, Procore and Miro preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision, participate in the preparation of basic construction documents and specifications of lighting and control systems.
• Design lighting and controls systems for healthcare, education and commercial clients.
• Analyze lighting and engineering documents and layout systems.
• Apply knowledge of electrical and energy codes and IES recommendations.
• Perform illuminance and lighting power density calculations and complete ComCheck/record documents for rebates, LEED/WELL, etc.
• Suggest improvements with reference standards to improve quality and coordination.
• Assist in review and mark up of shop drawings and submittals.
• Assist in gathering information for RFIs and change orders in construction docs.
• Occasionally visit job sites to verify conditions and observe progress.
