Job summary

CannonDesign is seeking an entry-level Lighting Designer to join our multi-disciplinary team in Chicago. You will work under the direct supervision of our lighting team leader on projects across educational, healthcare, sports, corporate, and science markets.

You will assist in preparing basic construction documents, design lighting systems, perform calculations, and support LEED/WELL related tasks, with opportunities to grow proficiency in Revit MEP and related tools.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field by hire date.

Responsibilities

Prepare basic construction documents and specifications of lighting and control systems under direct supervision.
Design lighting and controls systems for healthcare, education, and commercial clients under supervision.
Analyze lighting and engineering documents and layout systems.
Apply energy codes and IES recommendations to design.
Perform illuminance and lighting power density calculations and complete ComCheck/other records.
Suggest improvements referencing standards to improve quality and streamline production.
Review shop drawings and submittals.
Gather information for RFIs and change orders in document prep.
Visit job sites to verify conditions and observe progress; site walks.
Overtime may be required.
