Job summary

EwingCole is seeking a Lighting Designer 3 to join our Philadelphia or Wayne office. You will lead the design and documentation of lighting systems across diverse project types, guiding project delivery and mentoring junior staff.

The role requires advanced lighting knowledge, collaboration across disciplines, and participation in client presentations and project strategy to ensure quality and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design or Theater.
• LC Certified or IALD Certification encouraged.
• EwingCole currently utilizes Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and the Microsoft Suite software to deliver projects.
• Excels in the guidelines of preceding roles including Lighting Designer 2.

Responsibilities

• Guides modeling and creation of drawings to deliver projects and reviews key decisions with Discipline leadership.
• Works with project teams to ensure lighting design is integrated across disciplines and remains within budget.
• Progresses project work from schematic design through construction documentation while meeting schedules.

We are looking for an Lighting Designer 3 to join our team in our Philadelphia or Wayne office.

The Lighting Designer 3 leads the design and documentation of lighting systems across a wide range of project types, scales, and market sectors. This role provides project-level leadership, overseeing coordination, and quality of work for lighting design teams. The Lighting Designer 3 applies advanced design, technical, and industry knowledge to guide project delivery, mentor junior staff, and contribute to client presentations and project strategy.

Essential Functions

This position demonstrates advanced skills in:

• Documentation: Guiding the modeling and creation of drawings used to accurately deliver projects, reviews key project decisions with Discipline leadership
• Software: Understanding the software analysis to ensure accuracy
• Building Technology: Applying an understanding of construction methods to building design, including advanced integration of lighting systems and controls across disciplines
• Project Delivery: Progressing project work from schematic design through construction documentation, ensuring design and production efforts are completed within the project schedule and budget
• Codes: Ensuring project designs and construction documents comply with applicable lighting, energy, and emergency lighting requirements
• Quality Standards: Promoting project quality through adherence to and the ongoing improvement of the company standards applying lighting design best practices and industry standards
• Sustainability: Conceiving projects with rigor to resolve energy and environmental impacts and meet sustainability goals
• Design Generation: Initiating the design approach to distinctive solutions which consider the totality of a project, including development of advanced lighting system concepts and specialized design applications
• Material Research: Selecting lighting and control systems and identifying appropriate applications that consider the lifecycle of the products and system performance
• Construction Administration: Managing the construction phase through responsive coordination with the builder to maintain design intent and contractual requirements
• Calculations: Determining and applying calculation and analysis models to evaluate engineering conditions and guide project design decisions, performing and reviewing lighting calculations to inform fixture selection and layout
• Cost Consciousness: Analyzing construction cost estimates for alignment of design intent and approved budgets and develops alternatives for controlling project costs
• Design Communication: Conveying lighting design intent, technical decisions, and cost implications to clients, consultants, and project teams, including leading client presentations and discussions
• Specification Writing: Defining the design intent for material qualitative requirements and performance standards to ensure contractually enforceable and accurate representation of the design
