Job summary

EwingCole seeks a Lighting Designer 1 to support senior designers in Philadelphia or Wayne, contributing to lighting concepts, calculations and documentation across project phases. The role emphasizes collaboration, sustainability, and developing junior staff while delivering coordinated drawings and layouts.

Ideal candidates hold a related bachelor’s degree and are pursuing or have an E.I.T. or LC, with proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and MS Office to deliver high-quality design

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in a related design/engineering field.
• E.I.T. or Lighting Certification (LC) intern encouraged.
• Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Composes and notates production documentation including lighting plans and details.
• Applies the correct software tools to design tasks and deliver work.
• Coordinates with project teams and references codes and standards.
• Develops lighting layouts, fixture selections and control concepts.
• Supports construction administration through submittals and RFIs.
• Communicates lighting design intent to stakeholders.
• Gains exposure to specification editing within projects.

Job description

EwingCole is a nationally recognized architecture, engineering, interior design and planning firm with offices across the country. We are looking for an Lighting Designer 1 to join our team in our Philadelphia or Wayne office.

The Lighting Designer 1 supports senior lighting designers on design and documentation efforts. This role applies foundational lighting design knowledge to develop lighting concepts, perform calculations, and produce coordinated documentation across all phases of a project. The Lighting Designer I contributes to client deliverables, participates in coordination with project teams, and supports the development of junior staff.

Essential Functions:

• Documentation: Composes and notates production documentation appropriately, including lighting plans, details, and coordinated drawing sets
• Software: Demonstrates the ability to apply the correct software tool to the task
• Building Technology: Applies knowledge gained and coordinates with other project team members
• Project Delivery: Supports the project team in all phases of project documentation
• Codes: References applicable codes in the development of projects
• Quality Standards: References company standards in the development of projects
• Sustainability: Applies an understanding of sustainability and energy efficiency concepts to projects
• Design Generation: Enhances the key aspects of a design with the addition of detail, including development of lighting layouts, fixture selections, and lighting control system concepts
• Material Research: Acquires knowledge of lighting products and control systems and evaluates appropriate applications
• Construction Administration: Assists with submittal reviews, RFIs and reports on site observations
• Calculations: References codes, standards and best practices to analyze lighting conditions and develop calculations
• Design Communication: Communicates lighting design intent to project teams
• Profitability: Develops a basic understanding of project management and budgeting
• Specification Writing: Gains exposure to specification editing in application to a project

Requirements

• Bachelor in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design or Theater
• E.I.T. or Lighting Certification (LC) Intern encouraged
• EwingCole currently utilizes Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and the Microsoft Suite software to deliver projects
