Job summary

EwingCole seeks a Lighting Designer 1 to join our Philadelphia or Wayne office. You will support senior designers on design and documentation, developing lighting concepts and calculations while producing coordinated drawings for all project phases.

Responsibilities include creating lighting layouts, selecting fixtures, and shaping lighting control ideas, while adhering to codes, standards, and sustainability goals. This entry-level role offers growth in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary firm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design or Theater (required/preferred).
• E.I.T. or Lighting Certification (LC)Intern encouraged.
• EwingCole utilizes Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and the Microsoft Suite to deliver projects.

We are looking for a Lighting Designer 1 to join our team in our Philadelphia or Wayne office.

The Lighting Designer 1 supports senior lighting designers on design and documentation efforts. This role applies foundational lighting design knowledge to develop lighting concepts, perform calculations, and produce coordinated documentation across all phases of a project. The Lighting Designer I contributes to client deliverables, participates in coordination with project teams, and supports the development of junior staff.

Essential Functions:

• Documentation: Composes and notates production documentation appropriately, including lighting plans, details, and coordinated drawing sets
• Software: Demonstrates the ability to apply the correct software tool to the task
• Building Technology: Applies knowledge gained and coordinates with other project team members
• Project Delivery: Supports the project team in all phases of project documentation
• Codes: References applicable codes in the development of projects
• Quality Standards: References company standards in the development of projects
• Sustainability: Applies an understanding of sustainability and energy efficiency concepts to projects
• Design Generation: Enhances the key aspects of a design with the addition of detail, including development of lighting layouts, fixture selections, and lighting control system concepts
• Material Research: Acquires knowledge of lighting products and control systems and evaluates appropriate applications
• Construction Administration: Assists with submittal reviews, RFIs and reports on site observations
• Calculations: References codes, standards and best practices to analyze lighting conditions and develop calculations
• Design Communication: Communicates lighting design intent to project teams
• Profitability: Develops a basic understanding of project management and budgeting
• Specification Writing: Gains exposure to specification editing in application to a project

Requirements

• Bachelor in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design or Theater
