About this position

A company is nothing without its people. And our culture? That’s our personality—it’s the unique mix of who we are and how we show up for each other. It shapes how we work together and makes this more than just a job.

At Lighting Environments, you’re not just here to do a task—you’re part of a team. We value curiosity, collaboration, and initiative. You play a direct role in shaping the experience for your colleagues, our partners, and our clients.

That means building relationships, communicating openly, lifting others up, and giving grace when life (or mistakes) happen. We own it, learn from it, and move forward—together. It takes all of us to make this a great place to work, and we’re glad you’re here.

MORE SPECIFICALLY, WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Field Service Technician performs on-site programming and commissioning of lighting control and building control systems within the MD, DC, and VA territories. Projects range from simple stand-alone systems to complex network systems to hospitality to architainment lighting, as well as IoT systems, encompassing controls outside of the normal lighting scope.

A day in the life of a Field Service Technician may include the following:

  • Conducting pre-installation calls and/or visits with electrical contractors and additional follow-up calls or meetings as required for successful completion of the project
  • Travelling to job sites in various phases of construction across the MD, DC, and VA territories to examine installation of hardware and testing equipment
  • Technically training customers at all levels of the construction process, including contractors and end-users, on the use and maintenance of the lighting and building control systems installed in a tactful, technically proficient, service-oriented manner
  • Programming equipment, either on job sites or remotely, as dictated by the project needs
  • Contacting manufacturer’s technical support as needed for guidance on system intricacies or complex problems
  • Documenting and maintaining project hardware, software, firmware, and full system configuration
  • Providing technical support on our controls lines in support of pre-sale and post-sale activities
  • Reviewing controls designs to ensure components meet the specified functions
  • Supporting in-office control system projects for Lighting Environments and Environments including research, installation, programming, adjustment, and/or configuration of components
  • And last, but not least, everyone is expected to step up and help when needed. So, you can plan on performing other duties as assigned.
WHAT MAKES YOU GREAT FOR THIS ROLE
  • You like helping people out! Whether it’s an internal or external customer, you take pride in the relationship you’ve cultivated and meeting their needs.
  • You pay attention to the details…all of them. No dot-less i’s or cross-less t’s get past you.
  • You use language skills like a multitool; absorbing and dispersing information, articulating thoughts, and exchanging ideas through both written and verbal forms. You listen actively, write concisely, and speak clearly.
  • You enjoy solving problems. You love taking on difficult challenges and creating solutions. And if you don’t know the answer, you’ll dig until you find one.
  • Your wheels are always turning. You enjoy collecting information and evaluating it from different angles to identify trends and draw a conclusion.
  • You continuously prioritize and consciously control the amount of time spent on specific tasks.
  • You use an intellectual arsenal of logical, business-minded thinking to determine next steps, actions, and plans.
  • You tend to have a competitive drive, never losing sight of the end game and always have a target you’re trying to achieve. You may be prone to maintaining a to-do list and absolutely love to check off completed tasks.
  • You are patient, level-headed, and cool under pressure. When things change, it’s no biggie. You just roll with the punches and reprioritize.
  • You are honest with yourself and receive feedback to know what areas you wish to improve. You enjoy pushing yourself to learn something new, whether in a structured, formal setting or exposure in day-to-day activities. You never miss a chance to grow.
