The City of Amarillo seeks a Lift Station Maintenance Mechanic I to perform semi-skilled service and maintenance of pumps, motors, and electrical equipment in sewer lift stations within the wastewater system. This role requires working shifts, including evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed, with weather essential status.

Under supervision, you will inspect, repair, replace components, clear clogs, operate flow meters and gas detectors, and maintain vehicles and equipment in safe condition

Qualifications

## LIFT STATION MAINTENANCE MECHANIC IApplylocations: Service Center Sitetime type: Full timeposted on: Posted Todaytime left to apply: End Date: August 13, 2026 (20 days left to apply)job requisition id: JR3085**SUMMARY**Under the general supervision of the Wastewater Supervisor, this position performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the service and maintenance of pumps, motors, and auxiliary equipment in sewer lift stations in the wastewater collection system. This position will be required to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime as necessary by the department, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES*** Assists in the inspection, repair, and/or replacement of pumps, motors, piping, and electrical control equipment within the lift stations.* Removes debris from clogged pumps, repacks pumps, and works on various electrical control devices.* Wears safety equipment, including a safety harness, breathing mask, hard hat, etc.* Cleans wet wells, which requires going into the wet side of the lift station and removing debris.* Performs scope of responsibilities safely, following departmental safety guidelines.* Calculates capacities of pumps, operates flow meters, and gas detectors.* Maintains all vehicles and equipment in clean and good working condition.* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent (GED) and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in maintenance and construction work on the sewer system. Experience in pump and/or motor maintenance preferred.**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**· Knowledge of the dangers of working in confined spaces and types of gases commonly found in sewage systems.* Ability to operate amp probes, gas detectors, breathing equipment, flow meters, safety harness, blowers, air compressors, jackhammers, pipe cutters, barricades, cones, pickups, and various small hand tools.* Ability to operate and repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.* Ability to operate and repair medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial mowers.* Ability to operate and repair heavy or complex machinery, such as HVAC systems, construction equipment, or water plants.* Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.* Strong verbal and written communication skills.* Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.* **ADA PROFILE**Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
