Job summary

The City of Amarillo is seeking a Drainage Utility Foreperson (Repair Crew) to supervise a small crew in maintaining the storm water drainage system. The role combines field supervision with equipment operation and safety oversight.

The Foreperson will train staff, order materials, and ensure compliance with traffic control and safety regulations. A Class A CDL is required, with additional heavy equipment experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three (3) years experience in utility/storm drainage construction, or maintenance, or similar work preferred.
• Experience with confined space safety regulations and procedures desirable.
• Completion of 16 hours training in traffic and barricading procedures during probationary year.
• Completion of 16 hours training in confined space entry and recovery safety procedures during probationary year.

Regularly supervises personnel, and may assume duties of Drainage Utility Supervisor I in his/her absence.**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES*** · Supervises a small pipe repair crew consisting of utility workers, truck drivers and a utility operator in the construction and maintenance of City facilities, as well as other functions within the Department as may be required. · Supervises the activities of all pipe repair, construction, and maintenance. · Responsible for all equipment and tools under his direction. · Assists supervisor with organizing and scheduling the activities of all pipe repair and construction. · Orders and calculates materials needed for the job (pipe, concrete and related supplies). Also requires knowledge and ability to calculate application of such materials. · Trains new employees and cross-trains existing employees. · Performs minor maintenance and repair on equipment and observes maintenance schedule. · Knowledgeable in the use and maintenance of all equipment used in pipe-related work - may be required to operate if needed. · Knowledgeable in the techniques required to set forms and finish concrete – may be required to assist with these operations as needed. · Knowledgeable in and capable of establishing the proper grade for forming activities and flow line requirements. · Maintains safe working environment through compliance with occupational safety rules and practices, and the application of standard work zone traffic control procedures. · Completes daily job reports and other reports as needed. · Operates other equipment or trucks, such as 12 cubic yard dump truck, backhoe, vactor/jetter truck, volumetric mixer truck, etc. · Performs manual work when needed to assist in the performance of various tasks. · Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Other Responsibilities:* Maintains safe working environment through the application of standard barricading and traffic safety procedures.* Proper completion of daily job reports, and other reports as needed.* Maintains an inventory of all tools.* Operates other equipment or trucks as needed during emergencies, trains on unfamiliar equipment or operates within comparable pay range when necessary.* Maintains safe working environment through compliance with occupational safety rules and practices.* Performs manual work when needed to assist in the performance of various tasks.* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**Graduation from high school or GED required. Experience with confined space safety regulations, procedures, and safety equipment desirable. Experience with utility/storm sewer pipe video inspection equipment desirable. Completion of 16 hours training in traffic and barricading procedures during probationary year. Completion of 16 hours training in confined space entry and recovery safety procedures during probationary year Valid Texas Driver’s License, Class A CDL, required. Regular and punctual attendance is a requirement of this position. .**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES*** · Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing. · Strong verbal and written communication skill. · Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems. • Knowledge of storm sewer pipe cleaning/maintenance/repair methods and equipment. • Must have working knowledge of light and medium equipment and trucks, i.e., 12 yard dump truck, vactor/jetter truck, backhoe, etc. · Should be familiar with confined space entry and recovery equipment, and safety procedures. · Ability to operate and repair small/light equipment, such as power tools. · Must have a working knowledge of trench safety equipment and must have competent person training within first 12 months of hire. · Ability to operate medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial mowers. · Knowledge of traffic control devices and their applications.**ADA PROFILE**Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
