Job summary

YMCA of Southern Maine in Freeport, ME is seeking a Lifeguard to supervise the pool, prevent accidents, and respond to emergencies. Certification is offered if you commit to working at the YMCA for a minimum of 12 weeks. Positions start at $17/hour with a $2/hour weekend differential.

You will maintain rescue readiness, enforce safety rules, and assist with water testing and other duties as assigned. Competitive benefits and ongoing training are provided.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and Basic First Aid.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel locally.
• Criminal background check required prior to hire; paid by YMCA of Southern Maine.
• Able to meet all physical requirements with or without accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain rescue readiness at all times and supervise the pool area.
• Position to protect entire assigned zone and keep bottom of pool visible.
• Enforce non-swimmer protection and safety rules; take corrective action as needed.
• Clear the pool if unsafe and manage off-scan duties as directed by management.
• Promote YMCA initiatives and participate in annual campaigns where possible.
• Learn and use the Employee Portal; adhere to YMCA brand guidelines.

Education

Lifeguard certification (YMCA or American Red Cross)
