Job summary

Regional YMCA of Western CT is seeking a Lifeguard to monitor pool areas, enforce safety rules, and maintain sanitary conditions. You will respond to emergencies per YMCA procedures, perform equipment checks, and keep accurate records while upholding a welcoming environment for all members.

The role emphasizes rescue readiness, ongoing trainings, and participation in staff meetings to maintain high safety and service standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16.
• Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
• New Employee Orientation including Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens and Sexual Harassment Training.
• Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
• Review and follow emergency procedures; respond immediately as required.
• Maintain safety rules and guidelines for pool and aquatic areas.
• Keep accurate records as required by YMCA and state health dept.
• Conduct equipment checks and ensure necessary equipment is available.
• Remain rescue-ready at all times.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; maintain rescue skills.
