Job summary

YMCA of Greater Hartford is seeking a Lifeguard to supervise pool areas and ensure a safe, clean environment for members and participants in West Hartford, CT. Under the Aquatics Director, you will enforce pool rules, monitor activity, and respond to emergencies with trained safety procedures.

The role requires current Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Oxygen Admin, and First Aid certifications, plus a commitment to YMCA core values and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• YMCA/ARC Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Oxygen Admin and First Aid certification required.
• Demonstrates maturity, responsibility and positive values when working with people.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work with a team to maintain safety.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of every individual in and around the pool.
• Enforce pool rules and facility regulations.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the premises.
• Keep accurate records as required by CT Health Dept Sanitary Code.
• Familiarize with other facilities and activities available.
• Learn and review all emergency procedures.
• Attend staff meetings and in-services as required.
• Report 15 minutes prior to scheduled hours in proper uniform.
• Secure a substitute lifeguard when unable to fulfill duties.
• Be alert to alarms and able to respond to emergencies.
• Ability to see, hear and respond to swimmers and alarms.
• Use a chemistry test kit as needed.
• Communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
• Sit or stand for extended periods as needed.
• Maintain required lifeguard certifications.
