Job summary

The YMCA in Mankato, MN is seeking a Lifeguard to supervise the aquatics area, ensuring member safety and a positive environment. You will oversee open swim, water exercise, swim lessons, and lap swimming, while adhering to strict safety procedures and reporting incidents as required.

The role requires lifeguard certification with CPR/First Aid/AED, the ability to respond quickly to emergencies, and strong communication skills across all age groups.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 15.
• Certifications: Lifeguard including CPR, First Aid, and AED for the Professional Rescuer or YMCA lifeguard certification.
• Ability to concentrate for long periods.
• Ability to recognize swimmers who may need assistance.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize, respond, and remedy unsafe/hazardous situations.
• Ability to communicate with all ages and levels of swimmers.
• Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
• Never been accused or convicted of any child abuse including sexual abuse.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area and respond to emergencies.
• Perform first aid and complete incident/accident reports.
• Apply safety rules and guidelines for pools and aquatic area.
• Carry out water rescues and use rescue equipment as trained.
• Inspect pool area for hazards and report conditions.
• Keep aquatic facility clean and organize equipment.
• Prepare pool for programs and set up lane lines and accessibility steps.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures including Child Abuse Prevention.
