Job summary

Hastings YMCA is seeking a Certified Lifeguard in Hastings, MN to supervise the aquatics area, prevent accidents, and assist swimmers. Flexible part-time schedule with opportunities for a positive pool experience for members.

The Lifeguard will respond to emergencies, enforce pool policies, and oversee open swim, water exercise, swim lessons, and lap swimming while supporting YMCA safety standards and member satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 15.
• Current nationally accredited lifeguard certification.
• Current BLS/CPR + AED for the Professional Rescuer annually and First Aid certifications.
• Certification required within 45 days of hire: Oxygen Administration.
• Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
• Detect noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment.
• See and observe all sections of an assigned zone of responsibility.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize swimmers in need of assistance.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize, respond and remedy unsafe situations.
• Ability to communicate with all ages and levels of swimmers.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and ages.
• Dedicated to member safety and the mission and philosophy of the YMCA.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the aquatics area to prevent accidents and assist swimmers.
• Respond to emergencies and maintain a safe, positive pool atmosphere.
• Oversee activities including open swim, water exercise, swim lessons, and lap swimming.
