Job summary

The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure pool safety and provide excellent member service. Under supervision, you will monitor the pool area, enforce rules, perform rescues, and respond to emergencies following YMCA procedures.

You will maintain certifications, assist with records, and participate in trainings and center operations to support youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 15 years of age with Red Cross certification; 16 for YMCA.
• YMCA lifeguard certification or Red Cross with YMCA switch within 6 months.
• Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2.
• Complete trainings: NEO, Bloodborne Pathogens, CAP, Sexual Harassment on hire and annually.
• Criminal background check and Child Protective Services check completed.

Responsibilities

• Support the YMCA mission and goals in all duties.
• Promote a professional work environment and model core values.
• Lead to strengthen youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
• Maintain vigilance and prevent lapses in supervision.
• Know and apply emergency procedures; respond immediately per policies.
• Maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
• Know and apply pool safety rules; maintain required records.
• Wear required guard attire and safety equipment.
• Keep emergency equipment ready; ensure safe aquatic environment.
• Enforce pool rules fairly; maintain certifications.
• Promote fundraising efforts and follow abuse reporting requirements.
• Lead in emergencies; report accidents per Emergency Action Plan.
• Ensure safe environment and adherence to EOP; attend trainings.
• Follow department standards; perform related duties as needed.
