• Must hold valid YMCA lifeguard certification or switch over from Red Cross within 6 months of hire.
• CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 certification required.
• Minimum age of 15 (16 for YMCA); a work permit may be required for 15-year-olds.

• Maintain vigilance and prevent lapses in concentration while overseeing pool safety.
• Know and apply all emergency procedures and respond immediately per YMCA policies.
• Keep accurate safety records and ensure all equipment and rules are followed.
• Enforce pool rules in a fair, polite manner and assist in reporting incidents.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled and promote a positive member experience.
• Carry out related duties to ensure a safe and welcoming aquatic environment.
