Job summary

YMCA Southcoast Lifeguard role is to maintain a safe, welcoming environment around the pool and surrounding areas, ensuring healthy conditions and patron engagement.

Daily duties include constant surveillance, immediate response to emergencies per YMCA procedures, enforcing health and safety rules, communicating programs to members, and keeping accurate records for YMCA and state agencies. You will perform equipment checks and chemical testing with corrective action to maintain pool safety.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 15 years.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer w/AED (infant/child/adult) & Basic First Aid Certifications.
• Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification.
• Attainment of YMCA Lifeguarding certification within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to achieve Oxygen Administration certification within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental alertness.

Responsibilities

• Maintains constant surveillance of the pool and pool areas.
• Maintains knowledge of all emergency procedures within pool area.
• Responds to emergencies immediately per YMCA policies and procedures; reports and follows up.
• Knows and applies health and safety rules for pool areas.
• Conveys program information and schedules to members.
• Maintains records required by YMCA and state agencies.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures required equipment is available.
• Performs chemical testing and takes corrective action as needed.
