Job summary

YMCA of Central Massachusetts, Boroughs Family Branch is seeking a reliable lifeguard to ensure pool safety and supervise members and staff in a busy aquatic environment. The role emphasizes strong communication, quick decision making, and a collaborative attitude with the Aquatics team.

Qualifications include an active Lifeguard Certification and the ability to present it before hire, plus Basic Life Support/CPR-AED, First Aid and oxygen administration either at hiring or within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Must hold active Lifeguard Certification and be able to present it before hire
• Must be at least 16 years old
• Must have certifications: basic Life Support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid and emergency oxygen administration at hiring or within 30 days of hire date

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area and ensures a safe environment for all members and staff.
• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, including delivering life saving care.
• Remains calm and objective under pressure.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Checks the pool for hazardous conditions and reports to the right personnel.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding and takes appropriate action.
• Attends staff trainings/meetings and maintains active certifications related to the position.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Are you a strong swimmer? Do you have great skill and technique with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills? Do you enjoy being responsible and be able to provide supervision and safety of all in a pool environment with your spare time? If so, the YMCA of Central Massachusetts, Boroughs Family Branch is looking for you to join our amazing Aquatics Department!

**Lifeguard Certification required; however, we offer the course for a minimal fee as a part of being hired. In order to be hired, candidate must successfully complete the lifeguarding course.

Essential Functions:

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area and ensures a safe environment for all members and staff.
• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, including delivering life saving care.
• Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and reports to the right personnel when appropriate
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
• Attends staff trainings/meetings and maintain active certifications related to the position.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
