Job summary

The YMCA of Central Massachusetts, Boroughs Family Branch, is seeking a part-time lifeguard to supervise pool activities and maintain a safe environment for all members and staff. You will monitor the pool, perform lifeguard duties, and assist with equipment and chemical testing as needed.

Ideal candidates are at least 16 years old, possess an active Lifeguard Certification, and have Basic Life Support or CPR/AED, First Aid, and emergency oxygen administration certifications either at hire or

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area and ensures a safe environment for all members and staff.
• Knows and reviews emergency procedures and responds immediately per YMCA policies, including delivering life saving care.
• Remains calm under pressure and communicates effectively with others.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures necessary equipment is available.
• Checks pool for hazards and reports to appropriate personnel.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding and takes appropriate action.
• Attends trainings and maintains active certifications related to the position.

Description

Are you a strong swimmer? Do you have great skill and technique with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills? Do you enjoy being responsible and be able to provide supervision and safety of all in a pool environment with your spare time? If so, the YMCA of Central Massachusetts, Boroughs Family Branch is looking for you to join our amazing Aquatics Department!

• Lifeguard Certification required; however, we offer the course for a minimal fee as part of being hired. In order to be hired, candidate must successfully complete the lifeguarding course.

Essential Functions

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area and ensures a safe environment for all members and staff.
• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, including delivering life saving care.
• Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and reports to the right personnel when appropriate
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
• Attends staff trainings/meetings and maintain active certifications related to the position.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must hold active Lifeguard Certification and able to present said certification before being hired
• Must be at least 16 years old
• Must have the following certifications: basic Life Support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid and emergency oxygen administration at hiring or within 30 days of hire date
