Qualifications

Join our lifeguard team at the Fitness and Health Pavilion in Montgomery - indoor and outdoor pools!

This position is responsible for monitoring pool activity, ensuring safe and appropriate pool practices, rescuing and assisting those in need, providing instruction to participants, and maintaining a clean pool environment. Team participation and member interaction are also included.

Job Requirements:

1. High School Education or equivalent (minimum 2 years)
2. Age 16-17 with work permit acceptable
3. American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
4. First Aid, CPR, AED certifications
5. YMCA lifeguard or other accepted certifications
6. Knowledge of basic rescue techniques and excellent swimming skills, including ability to swim 300 meters using the five basic strokes
7. Preferred: One season or summer of lifeguard experience (not required)

Job Responsibilities:

1. Foster a positive work environment and build relationships with members, staff, and partners. Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling and willingness to work extra or unscheduled shifts.
2. Promote safety in the pool area, perform rescues/prevent accidents, and report hazards to management.
3. Communicate effectively with management regarding concerns and maintain accurate records.
4. Assist with additional shifts and adapt to changing assignments as needed.
5. Create a positive environment, support coworkers, and mentor new employees or students.
6. Encourage members' swimming proficiency and fitness goals, assist with lane selection, and manage water fitness class lanes.
7. Maintain cleanliness of pool areas, including scrubbing, hosing, wiping down, and debris removal.

Working Conditions:

Includes occasional climbing, kneeling, lifting (up to 50+ lbs), pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, talking, and frequent use of hands. Visual and auditory awareness required.
