The Lifeguard at the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons using the aquatic facilities. You will supervise swimmers, enforce pool rules, and provide swim instruction to participants of varying skill levels.

Responsibilities include responding to emergencies with first aid and rescue, performing safety checks, maintaining the pool deck, and assisting in developing aquatic programs.

Formación

• Valid lifeguard certification from a recognized authority.
• Strong swimming skills and physical fitness.
• Excellent communication skills for instruction and engaging participants.
• CPR and First Aid certification.
• Proven ability to observe and respond quickly to emergencies.
• Experience collaborating with a team to ensure safety.

Responsabilidades

• Monitor activities in the aquatic area to prevent accidents and ensure safety.

This role involves supervising swimmers, enforcing safety rules, and providing swim instruction to individuals of varying skill levels. The Lifeguard/Instructor plays a critical role in promoting a safe, enjoyable, and educational environment for all members and guests.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor activities in the aquatic area to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of all swimmers.
• Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, providing first aid and rescue when necessary.
• Enforce all pool rules and regulations to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
• Conduct swim lessons and aquatic programs for individuals and groups, tailoring instruction to meet the needs of participants.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pool deck and surrounding areas.
• Perform regular safety checks and inspections of equipment and facilities.
• Attend and participate in all staff meetings and training sessions.
• Provide excellent customer service to all members and guests, addressing inquiries and concerns professionally.
• Assist in the development and implementation of aquatic programs and activities.
• Maintain accurate records of swim lessons and participant progress.

Qualifications

Required Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Experience

• Minimum of 1 year experience as a lifeguard or swim instructor.
• Proven track record of maintaining safety standards in aquatic environments.
• Experience in teaching swimming lessons to various age groups.

Required Skills And Abilities

• Valid lifeguard certification from a recognized authority (e.g., Red Cross, YMCA).
• Strong swimming skills and physical fitness.
• Excellent communication skills for instructing and engaging with participants.
• Ability to remain calm and act swiftly in emergency situations.
• Proficient in CPR and First Aid.
• Strong observational skills to ensure the safety of all participants.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently when necessary.
