An established industry player is seeking dedicated lifeguards to ensure safety at municipal swimming pools. In this vital role, you will perform lifesaving duties, enforce rules, and instruct swimming and water safety classes. You will be responsible for maintaining pool discipline, conducting tests, and ensuring a safe environment for all patrons. Under direction, to perform usual lifeguard and instructor duties at multiple municipal swimming pools; and to do related work as required.
Enforces rules and regulations and maintains discipline at a municipal swimming pool; rescues swimmers in distress; administers first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation; instructs or assists in instructing classes in diving, swimming, basic water safety, emergency water safety, and water sports; assists with general maintenance and clean-up activities, including the operation and maintenance of filters and chlorinators; conducts tests to determine chlorine and acid levels and checks equipment; officiates at swim and dive meets.
Knowledge of lifesaving and first aid techniques. Ability to enforce pool rules and regulations and maintain discipline; conduct swim and dive meets and instructional classes; operate mechanical equipment used in a large swimming pool; be alert, attentive, and exercise good judgment; be patient and understanding when dealing with children; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.
A valid First Aid Certificate which meets Emergency Medical Service Authority requirements, a valid Water Safety Instructor's Certificate, and a valid Lifeguard Certificate from authorized providers, as determined by the Management Services department, at time of appointment. Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Communicable Disease Certificates from authorized providers, as determined by the Management Services department, within two weeks of appointment.
A valid California Class "C" driver's license or equivalent may be required at time of appointment.
