Join to apply for the LIFEGUARD - INSTRUCTOR role at City of Burbank

Under direction, to perform usual lifeguard and instructor duties at multiple municipal swimming pools; and to do related work as required.

Responsibilities include:

1. Enforcing rules and regulations and maintaining discipline at a municipal swimming pool;
2. Rescuing swimmers in distress;
3. Administering first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation;
4. Instructing or assisting in instructing classes in diving, swimming, basic water safety, emergency water safety, and water sports;
5. Assisting with general maintenance and clean-up activities, including the operation and maintenance of filters and chlorinators;
6. Conducting tests to determine chlorine and acid levels and checking equipment;
7. Officiating at swim and dive meets.

Employment Standards: Knowledge of lifesaving and first aid techniques. Ability to enforce pool rules and regulations and maintain discipline; conduct swim and dive meets and instructional classes; operate mechanical equipment used in a large swimming pool; be alert, attentive, and exercise good judgment; be patient and understanding when dealing with children; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.

License & Certificates: A valid First Aid Certificate which meets Emergency Medical Service Authority requirements, a valid Water Safety Instructor's Certificate, and a valid Lifeguard Certificate from authorized providers, as determined by the Management Services department, at time of appointment. Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Communicable Disease Certificates from authorized providers, as determined by the Management Services department, within two weeks of appointment. A valid California Class "C" driver's license or equivalent may be required at time of appointment.
