Job summary

Emma B. Howe Northtown Family YMCA in Coon Rapids, MN is seeking a Part-Time Lifeguard II to supervise the aquatics area and ensure member safety.

Responsibilities include open swim, water exercise, swim lessons, and lap swimming, with a focus on quick emergency response and positive pool experiences. Requirements include a current lifeguard certification, BLS/CPR + AED, First Aid, Oxygen, and Lifeguard Supervisor credentials, plus strong communication and the ability to work with diverse

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18.
• Current nationally accredited lifeguard certification (applicable for body of water being guarded).
• Current BLS/CPR + AED for the Professional Rescuer annually, First Aid certifications and Oxygen Certification
• Current Lifeguard Supervisor certification through a training agency/facility whose program meets the requirements of the Model Aquatics Health Code.
• Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
• Effective verbal communication skill to team members and participants.
• Detect noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere in the zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodations.
• See and observe all sections of an assigned zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize swimmers in need of assistance.
• Demonstrated ability to recognize, respond and remedy unsafe situations.
• Ability to communicate with all ages and levels of swimmers
• Ability to work with diverse populations and ages.
• Dedicated to member safety and the mission and philosophy of the YMCA

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area/body of water, know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately.
• Provide sight or sound supervision for lifeguards under the age of 18 in aquatic areas when necessary.
• Provide shift directions to Lifeguard I team members.
• Ensure rotations are conducted in accordance with the safety plan.
• Assist with new team members onboarding during lifeguard shift.
• Coordinate team member response and patron care during an emergency, including performing first aid when necessary and completing appropriate incident/accident reports.
• Know, understand, and consistently communicate policies and guidelines for the pool, body of water, and whirlpool.
• Identify any health and safety hazards and communicate to team members and management to resolve or otherwise avoid the hazard.
• Attend monthly in-service training.
