Job summary

YMCA of Greater Cleveland is seeking a Lifeguard to promote a safe, welcoming environment for members and guests. The role focuses on preventing incidents, maintaining water quality, and enforcing pool safety rules in accordance with YMCA policies.

The position requires current CPR/First Aid, YMCA Lifeguard certification (or Red Cross lifeguard with crossover within 90 days), and WSI is a plus. Must be at least 16 and able to work a variable schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• CPR and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire
• Hold current YMCA Lifeguard certification (or valid Red Cross Lifeguard) and attend YMCA Crossover within 90 days
• WSI certification a plus
• Must be at least 16 years old
• Ability to read, write and understand written directions
• Demonstrate commitment to the YMCA mission and ethics
• Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds
• Willingness to be a mandated reporter for child abuse/neglect per policy

Responsibilities

• Maintain CPR, First Aid and other required YMCA certifications.
• Report on time with appropriate safety equipment and clothing.
• Ensure safety of all participants in the aquatics area at all times.
• Test and document water quality per health requirements.
• Follow safety practices, policies and procedures including reporting unsafe conditions.
• Attend monthly in-service trainings and participate in association events.
• Monitors chlorine, pH levels, and tracks water temperature hourly.
• Maintain clean, uncluttered pool area to allow quick response in emergencies.
• Assist with incident documentation and reporting to supervisors as needed.
• Follow child abuse and neglect reporting processes in accordance with policy.
