Job summary

The YMCA of the Jersey Shore in Red Bank, NJ is seeking a part-time American Red Cross instructor to lead certification courses. The role involves coordinating communication with students, managing attendance, and setting up/breaking down classrooms and equipment to ensure smooth course delivery.

You will adapt teaching to participant levels, stay current with course requirements, and maintain safety per the facility's emergency action plan while enforcing all policies.

Qualifications

• Current American Red Cross Instructor Certification required.
• Experience with Red Cross classes and Instructors Corner preferred.
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Manages and oversees all aspects of certification courses, including communication with students, attendance tracking, and setup/breakdown of classrooms and equipment.
• Evaluates issues related to students, equipment and space; reports concerns to supervisors.
• Provides approved training and support to students to help them achieve certification.
• Adapts teaching to participants' age, experience, and ability to meet course objectives.
• Maintains safety of the class and responds to emergencies per the facility plan.
• Enforces all building and aquatic policies, rules and procedures.
• Records and reports completed for each course and submits to supervisor.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The American Red Cross instructor at The YMCA of the Jersey Shore intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined.

• Manages and oversees all aspects of the certification courses, including communication with students, tracking attendance, classroom set up/breakdown, equipment set up/breakdown.
• Evaluates issues pertaining to students, equipment and classroom space. Reports concerns to supervisors.
• Provides approved training and support to the students to assist them in achieving their certification.
• Adapts teaching skills to the age, experience, and ability of the participants so they can meet course objectives.
• Familiarizes, researches, and identifies new materials to stay current with requirements of courses and instructor responsibilities.
• Oversees overall safety of the class, recognizes and responds to emergencies in accordance with the facilities emergency action plan.
• Enforces all building and aquatic policies, rules and procedures.
• Completes all records and reports required for course in a timely manner. Provides these documents to supervisor upon completion of the courses.

Qualifications

• Current American Red Cross Instructor Certification.
• YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
• Previous professional experience in instructor red cross classes and use of Instructors corner.
• Skills in problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and students.
