Lifeguard
Lifeguards are responsible for the safety of and direct supervision of all participants in the water and on the pool deck. Is responsible to prevent injury and react in emergency situations. Assist and reports to supervisory staff in providing supervision for Aquatic programs.
Scheduled Shifts:- Monday - Sunday, June - August
- 9:00am - 8:00pm (working 6-8 hour shifts)
Compensation: $15 - $18 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Always maintain proper and direct supervision of participants during all scheduled programs.
- Never leaves the pool unsupervised to perform other duties unless relieved, or in an emergency situation.
- Inspect area prior to use. Prevent injury and minimize or eliminate hazards. Report hazards to supervisory staff.
- Be prepared to react in emergency situations. Must wear required rescue equipment and WPRF issued uniform (rescue tube, hip pack, whistle, lifeguarding shirt/lifeguard sweatshirt/swim suit when on duty) and have appropriate equipment ready and available (large first aid kit, backboard and AED).
- Provide appropriate emergency care to facility patrons.
- Observe, enforce and explain all facility rules and regulations.
- Keeps deck area clear.
- Attend all in-service training programs and be aware of all facility programs and scheduling. Review current aquatic staff manual. Maintain current certifications.
- Completes maintenance, water quality readings, accident, rescue and cleaning required reports and records as assigned.
- Following shift, ensures another trained lifeguard takes over surveillance or ensures the pool is clear, locked and secured.
Secondary Responsibilities:- Maintains the cleanliness of the pool, pool deck, gutters, bathrooms and toilets throughout the day.
- Assist with the operation of the front desk area (answering phones and assisting customers) when needed.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff members.
Position Qualifications
- Minimum age of 15 years.
- Must Hold current certifications in (or enrolled in class): -
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid,
- Waterpark certification -American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or
- American Heart CPR for the Healthcare Provider
- Able to work with the public, assume responsibility for the safety of others and have the ability to perform rescue skills under pressure.
