Job summary

The City of Shoreview is hiring year-round lifeguards for our indoor pool and water park. No prior guarding experience is required; we provide all necessary training, including CPR and First Aid through Shoreview classes.

Uniforms are provided. Lifeguards may work varying shifts with a mix of weekday and weekend hours, and receive paid lifeguard certification training plus a free Community Center Membership.

Qualifications

• No previous guarding experience is needed; training provided.
• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Must be able to swim 50 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke.
• Lifeguard Certification training is free through city programs.

Responsibilities

• Arrive on time for shift
• Recognize emergencies and respond effectively
• Enforce all facility policies, rules and regulations
• Inspect locker rooms for cleanliness during shift
• Participate in in-service training sessions
• Maintain timesheet with hours worked
• Find a substitute for planned absences
• Maintain fitness level as required
• Other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Management staff

Job description

We are currently accepting applications for year-round positions.

No previous guarding experience is needed for this position, just a love of the water. We provide all necessary training.

The City of Shoreview employs 45 - 75 lifeguards, depending on the season, in our beautiful indoor pool and water park. The Shoreview Waterpark features a three-story waterslide, zero depth beach, adventure walk, water play feature, boat slide, giant floatable toys, adult deck/whirlpool, and much more in a fun, tropical environment.

Uniforms (tank top, shorts and whistle) are provided. Current employees can renew their lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications at no charge through Shoreview classes.

• Arrive on time for shift

• Regularly participate in in-service training sessions
• Maintain timesheet with accurate number of hours worked
• Find substitute to work shift if a planned absence is necessary

• Other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Management staff

No experience required.

FREE training is provided through Ellis & Associates.

Hours

Monday - Friday: 5 am - 8:30 pm
Saturdays: 6 am - 7 pm
Sundays: 6 am - 8 pm

*** $20/hour for Monday - Friday shifts worked during the school year (Sept 19, 2026-June 11, 2027)

between the hours of 5 am - 4 pm ***

*** Up to $20/hour for weekend shifts and special events

In addition, we have pool rentals and special events that need staffing. Staff must attend 3 hours of in-service training each month and other meetings as posted.

*** Lifeguard Certification training is delivered through a combination of online and in-person training. Employees are compensated at a rate of $11.50 per hour for lifeguard certification training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

• While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity.

• Work in warm and humid indoor pool environments with water temperatures 86 - 90 degrees.

• Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position.

• Ability to be exposed to noise and chemicals.

• Slippery surfaces walking on the pool deck.

• Ability to keep his/her composure with the public and co-workers in everyday, stressful and emergency situations.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
