Job summary

Minnetonka Public Schools is seeking an Aquatics/Lifeguard to support operations at the Minnetonka Aquatics Center and MMW pool. Flexible scheduling includes weekday afternoons and evenings, plus Sundays; 3-15 hours per week in summer and variable hours during the school year.

Starting pay is $16.00 per hour, with pay schedule details in Appendix D. This role is not medical or dental benefit eligible, and candidates must meet Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR certifications and pass the

Qualifications

  • Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Evidence of successful experience as a waterfront lifeguard preferred.
  • Knowledge of water safety surveillance techniques.
  • Demonstrated leadership, public relations, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age for public beaches and 15 for MME/MMW pools.
  • Successful completion of Physical Fitness Swim Assessment as specified.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general lifeguard duties; administer first aid and perform rescue operations as needed.
  • Greet visitors and provide information at pool facilities.
  • Recognize and respond quickly to emergency situations and administer first aid as needed.
  • Monitor facility and equipment to ensure safety.
  • Oversee activities within the pool and surrounding areas.
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
  • Enforce policies and rules in a professional manner.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism.

Assignment

Flexible scheduling with shifts available weekdays afternoons and evenings, and all day Sundays. Summer schedules differ from the regular school‑year schedule. 3-15 hours per week.

Wages

Job Responsibilities

Job Qualifications

  4. Demonstrated leadership, public relations, and communication skills.
  5. Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  6. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  7. Must be at least 16 years of age to work at one of our public beaches and at least 15 years of age to work at the MME and MMW pools.
  8. Must be able to successfully complete the Physical Fitness Swim Assessment:
    • 550 yd continuous swim, freestyle and breaststroke
    • 20 yard swim followed by a 5 lb brick retrieval at 7-10 ft depth, then kick back to the beginning on back while holding the brick
    • 15 yd underwater swim while retrieving multiple rings
    • 2 minutes treading water with no hands
