Job description

Lifeguard

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for the seasonal Lifeguard position. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and well‑being of the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center pool patrons (Brown students, faculty, staff, alumni, coaches, administrators, RISD students & faculty, and general community members) by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma/GED.
• Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard/FirstAid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer, or equivalent.

Job Competencies

• Candidate must successfully demonstrate all following swim and rescue skills as part of the interview process: Swim Test; Brick Test; Legs Only Tread; Rescue Skills Scenarios; Spinal Injury Management; CPR/AED/First Aid Scenarios.
• Ability to act swiftly in emergency situations using aquatic rescue equipment.
• Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding skills and rescue techniques to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until Brown emergency services arrives.
• Ability to make quick decisions and take decisive action. Assertive in enforcing facility rules and regulations consistently in a professional and customer service‑oriented manner.
• Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
• Leadership and public relations skills.
• Must be responsible, alert, dependable and on time for scheduled shift.
