General Description

Under supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director and Pool Manager, ensure patron safety through careful observation, emergency response, and enforcement of safety policies.

Essential Functions
  1. Maintain certifications, fitness, and alertness. Monitor patrons, respond to emergencies, perform rescues, administer first aid, and complete documentation.
  2. Assist in maintaining a safe and clean facility. Support swimming lessons and special events, teach or assist with swim lessons.
  3. Attend meetings and trainings. Enforce safety policies, maintain equipment, and communicate with staff.
  4. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Qualifications: Minimum age 16, enrolled in high school or higher education, or possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.

Licensure/Certification: Must be CPR/AED and First Aid certified, lifeguard certified. The City will pay for certifications.

Additional Attributes

Knowledge of lifeguarding, rescue, and first aid. Skills in customer service, communication, and swimming. Ability to read directives, solve problems, and develop effective working relationships.

Equipment Operated

Water rescue and first aid equipment such as AED, backboard, C-collar, etc.

Working Conditions

Exposure to chemicals, weather, crowds, potential injuries, and infectious diseases. May work irregular shifts and in noisy environments. Considered light work according to DOL standards.

Supervision

None directly supervised.

Retirement

OPERS pension (14% of gross paid by the City).
