Job summary

City of Springfield seeks a dedicated lifeguard to ensure patron safety at the facility. You will prevent and respond to emergencies, enforce rules, and report conditions to supervisors.

Responsibilities include pre-opening inspections, daily paperwork, training participation, sign-in of bathers, trash cleanup, and assisting with public relations. Requires current certifications and strong leadership.

Qualifications

Job description

Responsible for the safety of the patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.

• Recognize emergencies and respond to them effectively
• Enforce all aquatic rules, policies, and regulations to ALL patrons
• Inspect the facility before opening and closing to report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor
• Complete all paperwork during shifts
• Participate in regular in-service training sessions
• Sign-in all bathers using the facility
• Pick up any and all types of trash in and around the pool facility

• Thorough knowledge of life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques
• An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures
• Leadership and public relation skills
• Decision making skills

Current certification in the following is needed:

• American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training/First Aid
• American Red Cross or American Heart CPR for the Professional Rescuer
• American Red Cross Waterfront Life guarding, if working at 5-Mile Pond
