Job summary

City of Springfield Human Resources seeks a dedicated lifeguard for pool safety and emergency response. You will enforce rules, inspect facilities, and assist with sign-ins and cleanliness to ensure a safe environment for all patrons.

Qualifications include ARC/YMCA Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Waterfront Lifeguarding if assigned to 5-Mile Pond. This is a part-time, on-site position at the community pool.

Qualifications

  • Current lifeguard certification from American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training/First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Recognize emergencies and respond to them effectively.
  • Enforce aquatic rules, policies, and regulations for all patrons.
  • Inspect the facility before opening and closing to report unsafe conditions.
  • Complete all paperwork during shifts.
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
  • Sign-in all bathers using the facility.
  • Pick up trash in and around the pool facility.

Job description

Position Purpose/Summary

Responsible for the safety of the patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Essential Functions
  • Recognize emergencies and respond to them effectively
  • Enforce all aquatic rules, policies, and regulations to ALL patrons
  • Inspect the facility before opening and closing to report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor
  • Complete all paperwork during shifts
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions
  • Sign-in all bathers using the facility
  • Pick up any and all types of trash in and around the pool facility
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques
  • An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures
  • Leadership and public relation skills
  • Decision making skills
Education And Experience

Current certification in the following is needed:

  • American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training/First Aid
  • American Red Cross or American Heart CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • American Red Cross Waterfront Life guarding, if working at 5-Mile Pond
