Job summary

Kodiak is seeking a lifeguard to provide customer service to program patrons and the general public, supervise swimming activities, and enforce safety policies. The role requires current Red Cross Lifeguard certification and first aid, CPR, and AED training.

Responsibilities include facility inspections, water testing, incident reporting, and delivering first aid or CPR/ AED as needed. Evening, holiday, and weekend availability is required.

Qualifications

• Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
• First Aid, CPR and AED certification required.
• High school diploma or GED required (HS students exempt).

Responsibilities

• Provides customer service to program patrons and the general public.
• Supervises swimming activities and enforces safety procedures.
• Warns swimmers of danger and enforces pool regulations.
• Reports unsafe activity and intervenes when necessary.
• Evaluates safety conditions and initiates emergency action plan.
• Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water for safety and usability.
• Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment.
• Assists with chlorine testing and water records, adding chemicals as directed.
• Completes incident and accident reports.
• Administers first aid, CPR and AED, rescues swimmers in distress.
• Acts as a team member with staff and supervisors.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
• Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions, and intervenes when necessary.
• Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
• Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
• Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment.
• Assists with chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and adds chemicals to pool water as directed.
• Completes incident and accident reports.
• Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
• Acts as a team member maintaining a cooperative attitude with employees, supervisors and staff.
• Attend department and facility staff meetings and in-service trainings, as necessary.
• Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard certification and be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard at the pool, including First Aid, CPR and AED functions. Previous lifeguard experience is preferred.

Must have achieved a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED). *High school student applicants are exempt from this requirement*.

Supplemental Information

Must be available to work evenings, holidays and weekends as needed.
