Base pay range
$16.00/hr - $18.00/hr
Essential Functions
- Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
- Review and respond to emergency situations following YMCA policies and the “safe-in-six” model; complete related reports.
- Respond promptly to challenges with possible solutions.
- Apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area consistently.
- Remain calm and objective under pressure or when challenged.
- Keep accurate records as required by the YMCA and the state health department.
- Perform equipment checks and ensure availability of necessary equipment.
- Inspect the pool for hazards upon arrival.
- Conduct chemical testing and take appropriate actions as needed.
- Assist with cleaning the Aquatics Center when not on duty.
Qualifications
- Minimum age of 16.
- Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
- Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
- Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
- Demonstrate lifeguard skills according to YMCA standards.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Perform all physical skills required of a lifeguard.
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment.
- Remain alert without lapses of consciousness.
- Observe all sections of the assigned zone or area.
