Job description

Base pay range

$16.00/hr - $18.00/hr

Essential Functions

1. Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
2. Review and respond to emergency situations following YMCA policies and the “safe-in-six” model; complete related reports.
3. Respond promptly to challenges with possible solutions.
4. Apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area consistently.
5. Remain calm and objective under pressure or when challenged.
6. Keep accurate records as required by the YMCA and the state health department.
7. Perform equipment checks and ensure availability of necessary equipment.
8. Inspect the pool for hazards upon arrival.
9. Conduct chemical testing and take appropriate actions as needed.
10. Assist with cleaning the Aquatics Center when not on duty.

Qualifications

1. Minimum age of 16.
2. Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
3. Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
4. Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire.
5. Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
6. Demonstrate lifeguard skills according to YMCA standards.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

1. Perform all physical skills required of a lifeguard.
2. Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment.
3. Remain alert without lapses of consciousness.
4. Observe all sections of the assigned zone or area.
