Job Summary
Become a lifeguard and make a difference! No prior training is needed—learn life-saving skills while having fun. Lifeguards play a vital role in ensuring the safety of guests by maintaining a watchful eye on swimmers, enforcing rules, and responding to emergencies. This position is perfect for building confidence, teamwork, and responsibility. Lifeguards also help maintain a clean environment, including pool decks, locker rooms, and surrounding areas. Opportunities are available for both indoor and outdoor facilities.
Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
- Supervise swimmers in designated pool areas, maintaining constant vigilance and scanning assigned zones to ensure safety.
- Enforce pool rules, prevent accidents, and maintain discipline in a firm yet friendly manner.
- Perform lifeguard duties as trained by StarGuard guidelines, including responding to emergencies, conducting rescues, and administering first aid when necessary.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all guests both in and out of the water.
- Oversee the proper operation of assigned pool facilities and report any broken safety or mechanical equipment to the manager or assistant manager immediately.
- Complete daily cleaning assignments for the facility, including pool decks and surrounding areas.
- Attend and participate in required in-service trainings, including four hours per month, as well as district-wide part-time staff orientations and crisis training.
- Continuously review and practice lifeguard skills while on duty to ensure readiness.
- A premium lifeguard position is available if working a daytime shift during the school year.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- Applicants must be 16 years of age or older in compliance with Illinois Child Labor Laws and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Responsible for wearing corrective eye wear as needed to maintain 20/30 binocular vision, a vision test is required.
- StarGuard Elite Lifeguard Certification (including First Aid and infant, child, and adult CPR).
- Have knowledge of water safety practices and usage of water safety equipment.
Work Environment
The position requires standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and seeing; flexibility in work schedule which includes days, nights, and weekends; is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions which may include varying weather conditions, and is subject to chlorinated water.
