Job summary

YES Prep Public Schools in Houston seeks a Special Education Life Skills (Self-Contained) Teacher to lead rigorous, inclusive instruction for students with life skills needs. The role reports to the Special Education Manager and is part of a 10-month compensation structure with a strong focus on post-secondary readiness and fidelity to IEP goals.

The position requires a Texas SPED certification, at least 3 years of exemplary SPED teaching experience, and a Bachelor’s degree.

Qualifications

• Experience with Life Skills programming or similar settings.
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year institution.
• At least 3 years of exemplary Special Education teaching experience.
• Hold a Texas Educator Special Education Certification.
• Hold a Texas Educator Certification in Core Content.

Responsibilities

• Develop rigorous Life Skills lessons with inclusive practices.
• Set ambitious goals and monitor student progress with feedback.
• Create and maintain IEPs, progress reports, and service logs.
• Communicate regularly with parents via phone, video, email, or district portal.
• Coordinate Community-Based Instruction (CBI) and supervision duties as needed.
• Collaborate with Teaching Assistants and coaches to implement lessons.
