About Lawrence Hall

Lawrence Hall is a Chicago-based nonprofit social services agency that provides therapeutic, wellness, and skill development services to youth, families, and neighborhoods affected by lasting trauma. We foster healing and growth through empowerment, respect, safety, and teamwork.

Our Transitional and Independent Living Program empowers young adults ages 18 to 21 to successfully transition into adulthood by providing essential life skills that support independent living. In Transitional Living, youth live in shared residences and learn budgeting, employment, career planning, and apartment upkeep. In Independent Living, youth manage their own housing, utilities, and continue skill-building toward full independence.

About the Role

As a Life Skills Educator in our Transitional and Independent Living (TIL/IL) programs, you’ll help youth aged 17½–21 gain essential life skills to successfully transition into adulthood. You will teach independent living, self-care, time management, and social skills, while fostering a supportive, affirming environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instruct youth in home management: cleaning, nutrition, shopping, meal planning, and cooking
  • Support self-care: grooming, dress, social skills, and personal confidence
  • Teach time management and daily routines
  • Transport youth to community resources, schools, and appointments
  • Participate in staffing, treatment planning, and continuous quality improvement activities
  • Maintain accurate documentation of behaviors and progress
  • Model trauma-informed care and strength-based approaches
  • Support a culturally diverse environment and collaborate with team members
Qualifications
  • Minimum 25 years old
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or High School diploma + 5 years related experience
  • At least 1 year working with older youth in child welfare or residential settings
  • Valid Illinois driver's license and ability to pass background checks
  • Strong verbal, written, and computer skills
Work Schedule & Additional Information

Weekend, holiday, and flexible hours are required to cover site needs. Physical requirements include the ability to walk stairs, lift up to 50 lbs, assist with client moves and interventions, and observe youth attentively.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly rate: $19.62 - $22.00/hour, based on experience
  • 17–25 days PTO + 9 paid holidays
