Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred Qualifications: Associate degree or higher in biology, life sciences, chemistry, or related field and/or experience working in a science laboratory setting. Experience with microscopes, microbiology techniques, laboratory equipment, inventory management, and laboratory safety is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up and tear down instructional life science laboratories and laboratory practicals, including equipment, models, specimens, slides, reagents, and other materials.
• Prepare solutions, media, cultures, specimens, and other laboratory materials as directed by faculty.
• Support microbiology laboratory preparation, sterilization, cleanup, and appropriate disposal of biological materials.
• Maintain, clean, and perform routine troubleshooting of microscopes and other laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Maintain inventories of prepared slides, models, specimens, chemicals, equipment, and other laboratory resources.
• Maintain and monitor inventories of consumable and non-consumable laboratory supplies and communicate purchasing or replacement needs.
• Receive, organize, and rotate laboratory supplies and maintain accurate inventory records.
• Clean and maintain laboratories, preparation rooms, storage areas, equipment, and instructional materials.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance and calibration and coordinate repair needs with the appropriate supervisor.
• Maintain appropriate chemical, biological, safety, equipment, and laboratory documentation.
• Ensure proper storage and disposal of chemical, microbiological, biological, sharps, and other laboratory waste.
• Assist with chemistry and other science laboratory preparation and maintenance as needed.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laboratory safety regulations, institutional policies, and procedures.
• Work with faculty to improve laboratory organization, preparation procedures, equipment, and instructional support.
• Perform other duties logically associated with the position as assigned.
