Job summary

County Emergency Communications in Pratt, WV is seeking Emergency Medical Dispatchers to support urgent medical responses. You will gather patient data, establish priorities, advise callers, and coordinate EMS resources with agency-approved protocols.

Depending on training and assignment, you may provide approved instructions before responders arrive and work shifts that include overnights, weekends, holidays, or overtime. The role requires attention to detail and adherence to protocols.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• EMD certification is preferred or required by the vacancy.
• CPR certification may be required; EMT/paramedic credentials are not universally required.

Responsibilities

• Receive calls involving illness, injury, and other medical emergencies.
• Confirm patient location, callback number, and access details.
• Ask approved questions about patient condition.
• Determine response priority through the authorized medical dispatch system.
• Dispatch or coordinate ambulance resources when assigned.
• Provide protocol-based instructions within current qualifications.
• Relay patient information and scene hazards to responding personnel.
• Document call processing and participate in quality-review activities.
