Job summary

ID.me is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to join the Life Hub team, building the SuperApp’s life-events experience that helps members discover and access the government, healthcare, and commercial benefits they are eligible for based on major life moments.

You will work across backend services (Java, REST APIs) and the React/Next.js experiences members interact with, turning eligibility rules into working software and expanding from Medicare to retirement and disability use cases.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent internship/academic project experience).
• Clear written and verbal communication—requires collaboration with Product, Design, and platform teams.
• Comfortable working on well-defined tickets with pair programming and senior guidance.
• AI-native engineering practices—using AI tooling to accelerate development.
• Bachelor’s degree in CS, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, debugging, and automated testing.
• Experience with Java and REST APIs.
• Frontend experience with React/Next.js.
• Exposure to eligibility, entitlements, or identity/benefits domains.
• JSON-based data modeling or rules/policy engines.
• Familiarity with ID.me Wallet, OAuth/OIDC concepts, or design system.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Life Hub eligibility logic and data models.
• Implement use-case and eligibility models in collaboration with senior engineers.
• Support discovery, access flows, and policy-enforced access control.
• Integrate with Persons, Profiles, and Developer Portal APIs.
• Develop Life Hub UI in React/Next.js for member experiences.
• Collaborate with Design and Product to refine ontology and roadmap.
• Ensure performance, accessibility, and cross-browser reliability.
• Provide production support and triage incidents and bugs.
