$20.00/hr - $24.00/hr

The Life Enrichment Assistant implements established life-enriching programs for residents of the skilled nursing and assisted living neighborhoods. The incumbent supports Penrose Harbor (Nursing Center) staff to meet individual residents’ physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual needs and interests.
Pay
$20-$24 an hour depending on experience
Hours
Friday – Tuesday from 1:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Dementia & Mental Health Training or ability to attain within regulatory guidelines.
- Ability to attain first aid training, HIV/AIDS training, obtain a food handler’s card, and CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
- Educated in the Montessori approach and implementing it effectively.
- One year experience or technical training working with older adults including Dementia/Alzheimer’s Residents.
- Work or volunteer experience within the past six months.
- Nursing Assistant license a plus.
- Ability to work with challenging resident behaviors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Cheerful, pleasant disposition.
- Ability to work in close cooperation with other staff members.
- Empathy and sensitivity to needs of ill, aged, and disabled persons.
- Patience, poise, and dignity in an emergency or crisis situation.
- Initiative and creativity.
- Ability to set priorities and multi-task.
- Tactful, enthusiastic, and courteous when dealing with residents, family members, and staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Regular, dependable, and reliable attendance.
- Excellent English communication skills both verbal and written.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conducts activity programs. Ensures residents are engaged on weekends and involved in holiday activities.
- Creates newsletter articles, program calendars, displays, and decorating activities.
- Plans and oversees recreational outing activities with residents.
- Conducts one-on-one resident activity programs for residents confined to bed.
- Meets regularly with the Programs Manager to discuss and give input on creating, updating, and implementing activity programs for residents.
- Assists with required, periodic documentation of activity assessments and evaluations on each resident according to background, interests, abilities, and physical limitations, in compliance with regulations.
- Within the interdisciplinary team, participates in, follows, and provides updates to the individual resident’s care plans. When appropriate, provides documented feedback to the Health Services team during the resident care planning process.
- Logs resident attendance and participation in activities with periodic documentation of resident responses to programs.
- Documents family members’ responses to programs, when applicable.
- Works with volunteers and volunteer activity programming.
- Assists with pet therapy programs.
- Participates in all-facility special events.
- Other duties as assigned.
