Summary: The Lieutenant oversees the police & protective service team within their area, supports department initiatives, manages staffing, collaborates with clinical shift leaders on safety concerns, and ensures compliance with policies. They are responsible for emergency access control, fire prevention, workplace violence decisions, scheduling, training, accountability, and development of officers. The Lieutenant must be knowledgeable in security, healthcare security, HIPAA, pharmacy regulations, and other healthcare-related regulations. They implement department plans aligned with hospital goals.

Responsibilities:

  1. Staff Accountability: Ensure all employees meet licensing requirements and follow disciplinary procedures if certifications are not renewed.
  2. Employee Morale: Address issues affecting morale and recognize exceptional employees.
  3. Human Resource Management: Handle hiring and termination per hospital policy and administer HR policies fairly.
  4. Ensure annual employment requirements are completed.
  5. Direct assigned personnel and approve work schedules, adjusting as needed.
  6. Develop employee performance and conduct performance reviews.
  7. Counsel employees on performance or behavioral issues.
  8. Keep employees informed on organizational and departmental matters.
  9. Respond to assistance calls, including security, fire alarms, and unruly individuals.
  10. Collaborate with departmental, system personnel, and law enforcement.
  11. Report critical incidents and security concerns to leadership.
  12. Maintain effective working relationships with managers and staff.
  13. Perform additional duties as required.

Other Information:

Education: Associates' Degree preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: Current NC police certification or obtain security firearms certificate within 90 days; North Carolina Driver's License within 3 months; Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET), Military/Combat Arms, or Security Training preferred.

Experience: 5-8 years in Security/Surveillance, supervision, or management roles.
