Job summary

Voyant Photonics in NYC is seeking a Sensor Verification & Characterization Engineer to advance LiDAR sensor development. You will run derisk experiments, build verification benches, and characterize subsystems from bring‑up to production.

The role requires hands‑on lab work, Python automation, and collaboration across hardware, photonics, optics, firmware, and controls teams. On‑site work in NYC is expected.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field; MS/PhD a plus.
• 4+ years hands-on system or sensor test, verification, or derisking.
• Experience with lab equipment and automated test equipment.
• Python for test automation and data analysis.
• Ability to design experiments under uncertainty and infer conclusions.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute verification and characterization tests for full sensor systems.
• Plan rapid derisk experiments for new technologies and subsystems.
• Correlate measurements with simulation and analytical models.
• Troubleshoot system- and subsystem-level issues using first-principles physics reasoning.
• Generate clear test reports and well‑formed hypotheses to drive decisions.
• Build, maintain, and automate test benches and lab equipment.
• Adapt quickly to changing requirements and shifting priorities.
• Collaborate with hardware, photonics, optics, firmware, and controls engineers.
