Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Service, Counseling, Psychology or related field from an accredited graduate program.
• Massachusetts licensure as a LICSW or LMHC required.
• Three to five years working with psychiatric populations (preferred).
• Experience with emergency department, inpatient and outpatient behavioral health needs is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication and ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, crisis evaluations, suicide assessment and interventions to patients while waiting for transfer.
• Provide brief medical, behavioral health and psychosocial interventions as part of the care team and keep the team informed of progress.
• Deliver therapy and counseling sessions to alleviate stressors or trauma during ED wait times.
• Document clearly and concisely; include discharge planning activities and multidisciplinary involvement.
• Complete a statistical record of cases, hours, contacts and services; submit to department secretary within 24 hours post-discharge.
• Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations and keep abreast of policies (JCAHO, DMH, DPH).
• Provide information and education to patients and families about the care plan and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
