BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn, NY is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency Day team. This role offers a $7,000 sign-on bonus based on experience and a competitive hourly pay range of $27.00–$51.00 plus shift differentials.

Shifts are Day Shifts; Thurs - Sat + EO Wed, 7am - 7pm. We provide advancement through our competency tool and eligibility for compensation for VTS credentialing.

Qualifications

• Active license as a Veterinary Technician in NY
• Emergency/critical care experience preferred
• Ability to monitor anesthesia and patient vitals

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia and use monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases and record vitals (temp, HR, RR, BP).
• Perform digital radiography with proper patient positioning.
• Interpret vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Administer medications and calculate dosages.
• Place IV catheters and manage central lines as needed.
• Mentor and train other staff and address client concerns.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn, NY is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency Day team.

This position is offering up to a $7,000 sign on bonus based on experience.

Schedule: Day Shifts;Thurs - Sat + EO Wed, 7am - 7pm.

Pay: $27.00 - $51.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$8.00/hr. Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
