Position Summary

USD 405 Lyons School District is seeking a highly skilled, student-centered Licensed Reading Specialist to lead and support evidence-based literacy instruction and intervention across the district. The Reading Specialist will play a critical role in implementing the Kansas Blueprint for Literacy, the Science of Reading, and structured literacy practices throughout the elementary school. This position will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, interventionists, special education staff, families, and other educational professionals to ensure that all students develop the foundational reading skills necessary for long-term academic success. The successful candidate will use assessment data to identify student literacy needs, provide targeted and intensive intervention, monitor student progress, support the development and implementation of Individual Student Literacy Plans (ISLPs), and strengthen classroom literacy instruction through coaching, collaboration, modeling, and professional learning. Qualifications

Required

• Current Kansas Teaching License with the Seal of Literacy
• Current Kansas Reading Specialist License/Endorsement or eligibility for the appropriate Kansas license/endorsement.
• Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Science of Reading and structured literacy.
• Strong knowledge of literacy assessment and progress monitoring.
• Ability to analyze and interpret student literacy data.
• Ability to design and implement individualized literacy interventions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, families, and other educational professionals.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding student information.

Preferred

• Experience providing literacy intervention in elementary settings.
• Training or experience in structured literacy.
• Training or experience related to dyslexia.
• Experience with MTSS/RTI systems.
• Experience administering and interpreting literacy assessments.
• Experience developing and monitoring Individual Student Literacy Plans.
• Experience providing teacher coaching or professional development.
• Experience with curriculum development, curriculum alignment, or instructional leadership.
