Care Options for Kids is seeking a Literacy Intervention Specialist to deliver targeted, evidence-based reading interventions to students performing below grade level. The role involves 1:1 and small-group instruction using Science of Reading, phonics, and multisensory techniques with careful progress monitoring and documentation.

Reporting to the Lead Literacy Specialist or School Principal, you will collaborate with teachers and RTI/MTSS teams, develop individualized plans, and track progress

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Literacy, Reading, or related field preferred or currently pursuing.
  • Minimum of 1 year of classroom teaching or specialized tutoring experience.
  • Pursuing practicum/clinical hours toward a Reading Specialist Endorsement or Literacy Certification.
  • Experience or training with diagnostic assessments such as DIBELS, AIMSweb, or MAP preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group reading interventions for students below grade level.
  • Administer and document diagnostic and progress-monitoring assessments.
  • Analyze student data to identify literacy needs and instructional gaps.
  • Develop individualized literacy plans with Lead Literacy Specialist or Special Education team.
  • Monitor and graph student progress toward literacy benchmarks monthly.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of intervention sessions and student responses to instruction.
  • Participate in RTI/MTSS meetings to discuss student placement and progress.
  • Communicate with classroom teachers and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Engage in professional development related to Science of Reading, phonics, and multisensory instruction.

Job description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated Literacy Intervention Specialist to provide targeted, research-based reading interventions to students performing below grade level. Under the direction of the Lead Literacy Specialist or School Principal, the Literacy Intervention Specialist will provide 1:1 and small-group instruction using evidence-based literacy practices, including the Science of Reading, phonics instruction, and multi-sensory literacy techniques. This position will monitor student progress, maintain accurate instructional documentation, and collaborate with teachers and interdisciplinary team members to ensure students receive effective, data-driven literacy support.

Reading Specialist Endorsement/Literacy Certification Preferred or In Progress

Experience/Requirements:
  • Experience in classroom teaching or specialized tutoring, preferably in literacy or reading intervention.
  • Experience providing 1:1 or small-group reading instruction preferred.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based literacy practices, including the Science of Reading and phonics instruction.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, document, and monitor student assessment data.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with students, teachers, administrators, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized literacy intervention plans.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and confidential student records and instructional documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an RTI/MTSS team.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently while following the direction of supervisory staff.
  • Commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs and using data to guide instruction.
Education/License/Certification:
  • Master’s degree in Literacy, Reading, or a related Educational field preferred or currently being pursued.
  • Minimum of 1 year of classroom teaching or specialized tutoring experience.
  • Pursuing practicum/clinical hours toward a State Reading Specialist Endorsement or Literacy Certification.
  • Experience or training with diagnostic assessments such as DIBELS, AIMSweb, or MAP preferred.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal education laws and regulations, including IDEA, preferred.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group reading interventions for students performing below grade level.

  • Develop individualized literacy plans in collaboration with the Lead Literacy Specialist and/or Special Education team.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of intervention sessions and student responses to instruction.
  • Participate in RTI/MTSS meetings to discuss student placement, intervention needs, and progress.
  • Communicate regularly with classroom teachers, supervisory staff, Speech-Language Pathologists, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Participate in professional development related to the Science of Reading, phonics, and multi-sensory literacy instruction.
  • Maintain organized instructional materials and a focused learning environment.
  • Supervise Instructional Aides or Paraprofessionals as assigned by the Literacy Lead or Administration.
  • Participate fully in required mentorship, clinical supervision, or practicum experiences for advanced certification.
