Job summary

State of Missouri’s Department of Mental Health is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the St. Charles Habilitation Center Nursing unit.

This full-time role administers medications and treatments, takes vital signs, and supports care plan activities. You will observe patient conditions, report changes, participate in rehabilitation, ambulation, and transfers, and must hold an active Missouri LPN license.

Qualifications

• Must possess a current license as a practical nurse in Missouri.
• DMH employees with disciplinary actions in the past 6 months will not be considered; eligible for promotion after 12 months with no discipline.

UNIT/DEPT: Nursing

DAYS OFF: Alternating Mon/Thur and every other weekend

HOURS: 2:30pm to 11:00pm

This is a licensed practical nurse (LPN) position accountable for administering medication and other prescribed treatments; taking vital signs; assisting with care plan activities; observing and reporting patient conditions and behaviors; and participating in rehabilitation, ambulation, and transfers.

The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. Years of service adjustments, shift differentials, and other targeted salary payments are applied to the total compensation of your paycheck and are subject to eligibility requirements of the appropriate differential.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Provides bedside care, including feeding, gavage, bathing, bed making, ambulation, and oral hygiene; takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, etc.
• Observes patients to detect deviations from normal conditions; records and reports signs and symptoms which may be indicative of change.
• Performs a variety of nursing duties including special decubitus care, tracheal care, oral and nasal tracheal suctioning, change of dressings, oxygen and aerosol therapy, catheterizations, bladder irrigations and instillation, douches, etc.
• Ability to perform a variety of advanced practical nursing duties.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to keep records and make reports.
• Able to perform all essential job functions within 2 weeks of being offered this position.

Qualification(s)

A successful candidate must possess a current license as a practical nurse in Missouri.

DMH employees who have had disciplinary actions within the past 6 months will not be considered. To promote to this position you should be free of discipline for twelve months. (See SLDDTC Policy 4.06, Bidding). This position will be filled by selecting among the most senior qualified bidder or most qualified applicant.

The successful candidate assigned to this position will not be eligible to apply for another position for ninety (90) days from the date of the assignment.
